Sebastian Eriksson (born January 31, 1989 in Brålanda ) is a Swedish football player . The defender plays for Cagliari Calcio in the Italian Serie A and for the Swedish national football team .
Career
Eriksson played at Åsebro IF in his youth before joining the youth department of IFK Göteborg in early 2006. In the summer of 2007 he moved up to the club's professional squad, but was initially not used. Nevertheless, shortly before the end of the year, he signed his first professional contract, which was valid until the end of 2011. After initially continuing to be a supplementary player, he gained a regular place in the defensive chain of the Gothenburg club during the 2008 season . He also played his way into the Swedish U-21 selection . While he established himself as a regular player at his club, he was initially a supplementary player in the youth team. As a result, he missed participation in the U-21 European Championship in 2009 , where he was available as a substitute in the event of an injury in the run-up to the tournament. As a representative of the younger age group, he also established himself in the national team after the tournament and was also in the squad of the senior national team for the first international games in 2010. In the 1-0 win against the national team of Oman through a goal by Anders Svensson on 20 January he made his debut on the team. While he was temporarily promoted to team captain at his club , he stayed in the extended squad of the national team.
In the summer of 2011, Eriksson was seriously injured when he tore a cruciate ligament in a duel with IF Elfsborgs . In late August 2011 he was loaned to Cagliari Calcio for one season . Due to injury, he was out almost the entire season in Italy, he made his championship debut as a substitute in the last game of the season. Nevertheless, Cagliari Calcio took him under contract in early July 2012.
