In this and the following year he competed sample training with the MLS - Franchise Sporting Kansas City . A change did not materialize and in January 2012 he joined Real de Banjul . With this team he became Gambian champions in the 2012 game year.

Kuopion PS

In January 2013 he signed a two-year contract with the Finnish first division club Kuopion PS . He made his debut on January 25, 2013 in a 4-1 cup win over Vaasan PS . In the Liigacup, which takes place before the league championship , he established himself as a regular player and on March 9, 2013 he met for the first time for the club from Central Finland in the quarter-final win against Myllykosken Pallo -47 . The central defender scored his first goal in the Veikkausliiga on April 21 (2nd matchday) in the 1: 2 away defeat against FF Jaro . That season he made 26 league games in which he scored two goals. In the following game year, 2014 , he only missed one of the 33 league games and scored four goals in these. At the end of his contract, he left Kuopio after two years and was subsequently described by the club president as the “best foreign commitment of all time”.

Djurgårdens IF

The Swedish first division club Djurgårdens IF had already secured the Gambier's signature in August 2014 and on January 1, 2015 he entered into a three-year contract there. He made his debut on February 22, 2015 in the 0-0 draw in the Swedish Cup against Ängelholms FF . He scored his first goal on April 26, 2015 (5th matchday) in a 2-0 away win against GIF Sundsvall . KRC Genk

On August 12, 2016, Omar Colley completed a medical check at the Belgian first division club KRC Genk without the consent of his club and thus missed the preparation for the league game against IF Elfsborg . Sports director Djurgårdens Bo Andersson announced that Colley would not be sold to Genk due to the injuries. He was therefore only substituted on against Elfsborg on August 14, 2016 (18th matchday). Despite the transfer ban, he was sold to KRC Genk the next day for a transfer fee of two million euros. Three days later he made his debut in a 2-2 draw against NK Lokomotiva Zagreb in qualifying for the UEFA Europa League for his new club. In Belgium, too, he was promoted to the undisputed regular player in a very short time and on December 18 (19th matchday) he scored in the top Belgian league for the first time in a 2-2 draw against Standard Liège . On March 9, 2017, he scored a goal in the 5-2 away win against KAA Gent in the second round of the Europa League. He made his debut on August 12, 2018 in a 1-0 cup win against AS Viterbese Castrense . At the Blucerchiati , for the first time in his professional football career, he failed to establish himself in the starting line-up of a new club and he was only used irregularly , especially at the beginning of the 2018/19 season . In the second half of the season he gradually developed into a regular in central defense and ended the season with 23 competitive appearances. In the next 2019/20 season , he was considered a regular under head coach Eusebio Di Francesco from the start and retained this status under his successor Claudio Ranieri . On March 14, 2020 it was announced that Colley had tested positive for COVID-19 , making him one of the first professionals in Italy to contract the disease.

National team

Omar Colley took part with the Gambian U17 national team at the U17 African Championship 2009 in Algeria and won the tournament in the final against the hosts with this selection . In 2011 he took part with the U20s in the 2011 U20 African Championship in South Africa , where he was used in all three group matches.

On June 15, 2012, he made his debut in the 1: 4 defeat against Algeria in the qualifier for the Africa Cup 2013 for the Gambian senior team , when he replaced Mustapha Alasan Jarju for the last minutes of the game . Since 2016 he has been the regular captain of the selection.
