history

A first pastor was mentioned in a document in 1187. The parish had been incorporated into the Augustinian Canons' Monastery of Neustift near Brixen since 1261 , but was only able to enforce the associated rights in 1399.

The church burned down in 1723 and was rebuilt with the master mason Nikolaus Ströner in 1723/1724 and consecrated in 1726. The neo-Romanesque facade was built around 1860 according to the plans of the architect Ludwig Tschurtschenthaler.

architecture

The large, simple baroque church with a north tower surrounded on three sides by a cemetery with a surrounding wall forms a building ensemble with the massive Widum .

The exterior of the church shows a simple structure in the nave and only stepped buttresses to the south. On the south wall there is a fragment of a fresco Crucifixion with Mary, John and St. Bishop around 1430.

The interior of the church shows ceiling paintings by Wolfram Köberl in the axis of the vault in 1964.

Furnishing

Josef Steiner created the high altar in 1865.

The organ in a classicist case was built in 1820. Lukas Graßmayr mentions a bell in 1673.
