Wolfram Köberl

Wolfram Köberl (born November 3, 1927 in Innsbruck ) is an Austrian painter and sculptor .

Wolfram Köberl from Innsbruck is sometimes referred to as a “living baroque painter ”. He mainly creates sacred art. His works include the Pietà in the upper image of the cross altar in the parish church of Alpbach and the Freiburg Dance of Death from 1963.

In 1954 he created a Baroque ceiling fresco in place of the frescoes by Johann Michael Rottmayr in the pilgrimage church of Maria Lanzendorf that were destroyed in World War II . In 1966 he was commissioned to reconstruct the ceiling fresco by Johann Zick in the Fürstensaal of the Bruchsal Palace , which had been destroyed in the Second World War . This work was finished in 1968. From 1970 to 1974 he also repainted the ceiling fresco in the marble hall and three overhangs .

Köberl created the painting Der Auferstandene on an outside wall of the Elbigenalp parish church . He was also involved in the interior restoration of this church. He redesigned the sanctuary and helped uncover Johann Jakob Zeiller's frescoes .

For the Obsteiger parish church, Köberl painted the ceiling paintings, completed in 1981, the grave lounger (1983) and the stations of the cross. Köberl also painted the stations of the cross in the Benedictine abbey of St. Georgenberg-Fiecht . In 1994 and 1995, Köberl created the frescoes in the Joseph Chapel in Düsseldorf based on his own designs in the Neo-Rococo style.

In 2005, on the occasion of the Pope's visit to the World Youth Day in Cologne, he was commissioned to paint two monumental pictures. The motifs were Sister Émilie Schneider and the Holy Family .
