Albin Ekdal (born July 28, 1989 in Bromma , Stockholm ) is a Swedish football player . The attacking midfielder is under contract with Sampdoria Genoa and is a Swedish international .
Career
society
Ekdal completed a trial training session with English club Chelsea in 2005 at the age of 15 . However , he declined the following contract offer from the London club on the grounds that he wanted to develop further in Sweden. He began his professional career at the beginning of the 2007 season in Fotbollsallsvenskan at his home club IF Brommapojkarna . Despite a few injuries during the season, he played his way there. In December 2007 he decided to move to the Italian record champions Juventus Turin . He stayed in Sweden until the summer of 2008 to finish school and continued to play for Brommapojkarna.
On May 23, 2008, he signed a four-year contract with Juventus. He mostly played in the Primavera , the highest age group of the youth teams, with which he won the Coppa Carnevale in Viareggio in 2009 . Ekdal made his debut in the professional team on October 18, 2008 in the 1: 2 defeat in the Serie A away game at SSC Napoli , where he came on in the 75th minute for Christian Poulsen . In the 2009/10 season Ekdal played on loan for AC Siena and was relegated to Serie B with the Tuscans . In August 2010 he left Juventus and moved to Bologna FC , which owned 50% of the transfer rights. In August 2011, Ekdal moved to league rivals Cagliari Calcio .
For the 2015/16 season Ekdal moved to Hamburger SV . He received a contract that ran until June 30, 2019. In three years he played only 54 games in the Bundesliga due to injury. He scored his only goal for HSV in the second half of the 2016/17 season in the game in the Volksparkstadion against Hertha BSC in the 77th minute with the 1-0 winning goal.
On August 16, 2018, he joined Sampdoria Genoa .
National team
On August 10, 2011 he made his debut in a test match for the Swedish national team in a 1-0 win in Kharkiv against Ukraine ; he was substituted on in the 60th minute for Sebastian Larsson . At the European Football Championship 2012 in Ukraine and Poland , he was not part of the Swedish squad ; At the 2016 European Championship finals in France, he played all three of Sweden's group games. At the end of the group stage, the team was bottom of the table and eliminated. In the following qualification for the 2018 World Cup in Russia , he qualified with the Swedish national team for the relegation, in which they prevailed against Italy. In the first leg in Solna Ekdal was in the starting line-up and was replaced in the second half by Jakob Johansson due to injury ; this scored the 1-0 winner shortly afterwards. In the second leg in Milan (0-0) he was not used. Ekdal was in the Swedish squad at the World Cup finals in Russia and reached the quarter-finals with the team.
