The Torneo di Viareggio or officially Torneo di Calcio Mondiale Coppa Carnevale ( Worldwide Soccer Tournament Carnival Cup ) is a decades held-find football - tournament for youth club teams in the Tuscan Viareggio .
The tournament traditionally takes place every year in the same period: from the Monday following the first Carnival Sunday to the Monday after the third Carnival Sunday.
The participants are mainly Italian clubs, but there are also numerous international youth clubs represented. 40 teams take part in the tournament, which are initially divided into ten groups of four teams each. The group winners and the six best-placed runners-up in the group qualify for the subsequent rounds, which are played in a knockout system up to the final.
