Roberto Muzzi (born September 21, 1971 in Rome ) is a former Italian football player who played for AS Roma , local rivals Lazio Rome , Cagliari Calcio and Udinese Calcio in Serie A during his active career .

Career

society

Roberto Muzzi began his career in the youth team of AS Roma , for whose professional team he completed the first games in Serie A in the 1989/90 season. However, he was never able to prevail in Rome and played 57 league games for the capitals in five years, in which he scored six goals. In November 1993 he moved to AC Pisa on loan . There he managed to achieve constant performance in Serie B and to play his way into the main lineup of the Tuscans. After the loan period expired in June 1994, he returned to Rome at short notice. After two more Serie A games for AS Roma, he left his youth club in the autumn of 1994 and signed with Cagliari Calcio .

At Cagliari he was able to put all his skills to the test and over the next five years developed into an important performer. In his first season with the Sardinians he was able to record twelve league goals in 22 games and even managed 16 Serie A goals for Cagliari in the 1998/99 season. In the summer of 1999 he signed a contract with league rivals Udinese Calcio . At Udine, too, he was one of the team's best scorers and helped the club to stay up with his goals. After four years with Udinese, he moved to Lazio in 2003. He also played many games at Lazio, but did not make it into the starting line-up. After a disappointing two years and just four goals, he left the club and joined Torino .

With his experience, the striker was an important support for the club, which had just been relegated to Serie B, and with his performance contributed to the direct recovery. The following season 2006/07 ended disappointingly for Muzzi again. Although he was able to narrowly avoid relegation with Turin, he only managed three goals in 28 league games. The attacker, who had long since passed his performance peak, then signed with the Serie C1 club Calcio Padova . Even at his last station, he could no longer build on his constant performance in the mid-1990s and only scored four times. In the 2008/09 season Muzzi was no longer considered for the squad of the Venetier and then ended his active career.

National team

Muzzi was used several times in the youth national teams of Italy. He played in a total of 24 games for the U-18 and U-21 of Italy and was able to score seven goals. For the 1992 Olympics , he was appointed to the Italian selection and used in five games. The attacker failed to score in the tournament and failed with Italy in the quarter-finals against eventual Olympic champion Spain.
