Roberto Baronio (born December 10, 1977 in Manerbio ) is a former Italian football player .
Player career
Beginnings
Roberto Baronio started his football career in 1994 with Brescia Calcio . Already in his first professional season, however, he had to accept relegation with his team as bottom of the table. After a year in Serie B , the 19-year-old Baronio was signed by the first division club Lazio Rome . The midfielder signed a long-term contract with the Romans and stayed in the capital until 2001 - interrupted by two one-year loan deals.
Lazio Rome
For the 1997/98 season Baronio was loaned to the second division club Vicenza Calcio , for which he was used in 13 games without having scored a goal. After a year in Lazio's squad, it was that time again in the 1999/2000 season and Baronio was loaned out to league rivals AC Reggiana . There he played a decisive role in staying up with three goals in 31 games. Although he was under contract with Lazio during the most successful period in the club's history, he was loaned out during 1998 and 2000 and won the European Cup and UEFA Super Cup titles in 1999.
The last few years
In 2001 the time had come and Baronio left Lazio. After a one-year stint at Fiorentina , at the end of which was relegation to Serie B , he played for the first division club Perugia Calcio in 2002/03 . After two strong years at Chievo Verona with a goal in 50 league games, Baronio managed to convince his ex-club Lazio, who signed him a second time. Again he could not prevail and remained a supplementary player. For the second half of the 2005/06 season he was awarded again, this time to Udinese Calcio . In September 2008 Baronio moved on loan to Brescia Calcio in Serie B. The 2009/10 season he spent again at Lazio, where Baronio was one of the regular midfielders and was used in 24 Serie A games. For the 2010/11 season he signed a contract with third division Atletico Roma .
National team
Roberto Baronio completed his only international match for Italy on June 11, 2005 . The game against Ecuador ended in a 1-1 draw.
