Robert Lea "Bob" MacMillan (born September 3, 1952 in Charlottetown , Prince Edward Island ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player (right winger) and coach who worked for the New York Rangers , St. Louis Blues , Atlanta Flames and respectively from 1972 to 1985 . Calgary Flames , Colorado Rockies and New jersey Devils and Chicago Blackhawks in the National Hockey League and the Minnesota Fighting Saints in the World Hockey Association played. His son Logan MacMillan is also a professional ice hockey player.

Career

MacMillan played in the OHA with Marcel Dionne during his junior years with the St. Catharines Black Hawks . Although it the New York Rangers in the NHL Amateur Draft in 1972 chose in the first round as the 15th, he preferred in the newly formed World Hockey Association for the Minnesota Fighting Saints to play.

After two decent years in Minnesota, he tried it in the NHL, but in the 1974/75 season he got only 22 missions in which he could not show the performance he had hoped for. So he mostly played in the AHL with the Providence Reds . After the season he was given to the St. Louis Blues . Here he managed to get a regular place. After a decent year, he was the blues best scorer in his second season in 1976/77 . But in the course of the following season he was passed on to the Atlanta Flames .

In the 52 games he played for the Flames in the 1977/78 season, he showed his dangerousness with 52 points. After the end of the season he played for the Canadian national team at the 1978 World Cup and finished third with his team. The 1978/79 season was the most successful year of his career. In a storm series with Guy Chouinard , who scored 50 goals this season, he brought it to 108 scorer points and finished fifth on the NHL scorer list. Since he only had to serve 14 penalty minutes, he was awarded the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy . After another season in Atlanta, the team moved and from then on played as the Calgary Flames . MacMillan remained dangerous, but could not build on the performances in Atlanta.

In November 1981 he was given to the Colorado Rockies together with Don Lever in exchange for Lanny McDonald . After the end of the 1981/82 season, this team also moved. He and Lever were also among the best scorers in the New Jersey Devils . With Bill MacMillan , his nine-year-old brother was his first year coach in New Jersey. The Chicago Black Hawks gave two players and a second-round draft right to the Devils, with which they got Eric Weinrich . But MacMillan only played 38 games for Chicago before ending his NHL career.

With the lower class Charlottetown Islanders , an ice hockey team from his hometown, he took over the coaching office after the active career end. In 1987 he went on the ice for two games for the team.
