Sandro Salvadore (born November 29, 1939 in Milan , † January 4, 2007 in Costigliole d'Asti (AT) ) was an Italian football player .

Career

In the club

Sandro Salvadore began his career at AC Milan , for whom he first played in the youth and on September 21, 1958 at 2: 0 victory over the US Triestina under Giuseppe Viani in Serie A debut. In the following season he became a regular player and celebrated the Italian championship with Milan . Two years later, in the 1961/62 season, he was able to repeat this success.

In the summer of 1962, Salvadore moved to Juventus Turin , where he was a regular for twelve years in the position of Libero . With Juve he was able to win three Scudetti and one Coppa Italia . After a total of 450 games and 17 goals wearing the Juventus jersey, Sandro Salvadore ended his playing career at the end of the 1973/74 season . His successor in the position of Libero at Juve was Gaetano Scirea .

In the national team

In the national team , Sandro Salvadore made his debut on December 10, 1960 in a 1: 2 against Austria . He participated with the Squadra Azzurra in the 1962 World Cup in Chile and in the 1966 World Cup in England . At the European Championship in 1968 in his own country, he was able to celebrate the title under coach Ferruccio Valcareggi . Salvadore made a total of 36 international matches (no goal) for Italy, 17 of them as captain.

He played his last game for the national team on February 21, 1970 when he played against Spain in Madrid . The two sides split 2-2 and Salvadore scored two own goals in three minutes. Then coach Valcareggi lost confidence in him and no longer nominated Salvadore for the 1970 World Cup in Mexico .

With the Italian selection he also took part in the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome . The host's team took fourth place.
