The Dresden-Reick gas works is a former urban gas works in the Dresden-Reick district and an important testimony to the industrial culture of the Wilhelminian era . It was located at Gasanstaltstrasse 10.

The first two gas tanks were built from 1887 to 1891 by Theodor Friedrich and in 1909 a third gas tank by Hans Erlwein . In 1916 factory buildings were added based on designs by Hans Poelzig . A metal gas container was added later. In 1973 gas production was stopped and in 1974 the first gas container was removed.

The representative gate system with gatehouse, the massive brick walling of the round gas container from 1879 and the likewise round reinforced concrete construction of the gas container from 1909 have been preserved from the complex. The older building was built over a basement with plastered ashlar , the coupled arched windows are on the first and second floors of high blind arches. The imposing reinforced concrete structure consists of a cylindrical shell-like body that extends over six storeys and appears to be held in place by five cubic stair towers. In addition, it is structured by numerous regularly arranged windows and pilaster strips . A flat dome with a low round ventilation lantern closed the building at the top.

Use as a panorama exhibition

One of the gasometers has been developed as an exhibition room under the name Panometer Dresden and, due to its architecture, is ideal for the presentation of 360 ° panoramas . A panorama by Yadegar Asisi is currently being shown, which depicts Dresden in 1945.
