Giancarlo "Berceroccia" Bercellino (born October 9, 1941 in Gattinara (VC) ) is a former Italian football player .

Bercellino, also known as Bercellino I , played as a defender during his playing career. Together with Ernesto Càstano , he formed a legendary center-back duo at Juventus Turin in the 1960s .

Career

In the club

Giancarlo Bercellino began his career with Alessandria in the 1960/61 season . In 1961 he moved to Juventus Turin, where he played until 1969 and was a regular in the defense for a long time. Bercellino won with "Juve" in the 1964/65 season the Coppa Italia and 1966/67 the Italian championship , a total of 202 games for Juventus and scored 14 goals. In 1969 he moved to Brescia Calcio , where he played until 1970.

In the national team

Giancarlo Bercellino made his debut in the national team on May 1, 1965 in a 4-1 game against Wales . After three games in 1967, he was in the squad of the Squadra Azzurra for the 1968 European Championship appointed in their own country. There he played his only game in the national team in the semifinals against the USSR on June 5, 1968 and was able to celebrate winning the European title. The game against the Soviet Union is also the last of a total of six games by Bercellino in the Azzurri dress .
