Ferruccio Valcareggi (born February 12, 1919 in Trieste , Italy , † November 2, 2005 in Florence , Italy ) was an Italian football player and coach .

Among other things, he coached the Italian national team from 1966 to 1974 . In 1968 he won the European Championship with Italy and was second with the team at the 1970 World Cup in Mexico after Italy had eliminated the German team in the semifinals in the match of the century . In the eight-year tenure of Valcareggi, the Squadra Azzurra lost only six of 54 games.

After the early exit in the preliminary round at the 1974 World Cup in Germany, he was replaced by Fulvio Bernardini .

Before his coaching career, Ferruccio Valcareggi was a player at US Triestina , AC Florence , FC Bologna , AC Vicenza , US Lucchese Libertas , AC Brescia and US Piombino . He played a total of 270 games in Serie A , in which the midfielder scored 44 goals. In addition, there are 124 appearances in Serie B with 16 goals in his stats .
