Angelo Anquilletti (born April 25, 1943 in San Donato Milanese (MI) , Italy , † January 9, 2015 ) was an Italian football player .

In 1968 he won the European Football Championship in his own country with the Italian national team .

Career

In the club

Angelo Anquilletti began his career at the club Solbiatese from Solbiate Arno in the Series D . In 1964 he moved to Atalanta Bergamo , for whom he made his Serie A debut on November 14, 1964 in a 1-0 away win at Cagliari Calcio . After two seasons in Bergamo , the defender moved to AC Milan for the 1966/67 season , where he played until 1977. With Milan , for which he played a total of 418 games, Anquilletti won the Italian championship under coach Nereo Rocco , twice the Coppa Italia , the European Cup , the World Cup and twice the European Cup Winners' Cup .

In the summer of 1977 Angelo Anquilletti moved to AC Monza Brianza in Serie B , where he ended his active career in 1979.

In the national team

In 1968 Angelo Anquilletti was appointed to the squad of the Italian national team for the European Championship in his own country by coach Ferruccio Valcareggi , without ever having played an international match . The defender did not play a game in the tournament, but was able to celebrate winning the European Championship with his team after beating Yugoslavia in the 2-0 final .

Anquilletti made his debut for the Italian national team on January 1, 1969 in a 3-2 draw against Mexico when he came on for Roberto Rosato in the 72nd minute . Four days later, he played his second and last international match for Italy against the same opponent.

During his entire career Anquilletti never had the chance to become a regular player in the Squadra Azzurra , as he had an extremely strong competitor in his position with Tarcisio Burgnich .
