The 1967/68 European Cup Winners 'Cup was the eighth draw in the European Cup Winners' Cup. 32 club teams from 31 countries took part, including defending champion FC Bayern Munich , who also competed as the reigning DFB Cup winner, a further 27 reigning cup winners and five defeated cup finalists ( FC Aberdeen , Lausanne-Sports , Torpedo Moscow , NAC Breda and Hamburger SV ).

In addition to the defending champion and current DFB Cup winner FC Bayern Munich , the finalist Hamburger SV was at the start from Germany, as the defending champion would have been eligible to start anyway. BSG Motor Zwickau from the GDR took part in the competition as FDGB cup winners, from Austria the ÖFB cup winners FK Austria Wien and from Switzerland cup finalist Lausanne-Sports .

AC Milan and Hamburger SV contested the final in De Kuip von Rotterdam on May 23, 1968. AC Milan prevailed 2-0 with two early goals from Kurt Hamrin . With HSV reaching the finals, it was the only time in four consecutive seasons that representatives of an association could reach the final.

The top scorer was Uwe Seeler from Hamburger SV with eight goals.

mode

As usual, the participants played the winner in pure cup mode with home and return matches. If there was a tie after both games, the number of goals scored away decided ( away goal rule ). If their number was the same, a playoff took place on a neutral pitch, as a penalty shoot-out was not yet planned. The final was decided in a game on a neutral court. In the event of a tie after extra time, a replay would have been scheduled, as a penalty shoot-out was not planned in the final either.
