In Stuttgart Neckar Stadium sat Atlético Madrid on September 5 against the defending champion AC Fiorentina 3: 0 by.

mode

As in the previous year, the participants played the winner in pure cup mode with home and away games. If there was a tie after extra time in the second leg, there would have been a playoff on a neutral pitch. The away goals rule did not yet apply. Starting this season, the final was decided in a game on a neutral court. However, if the score was tied after extra time, a replay was scheduled because a penalty shoot-out was not yet planned.
