Feliciano Rivilla Muñoz (born August 21, 1936 in Ávila , † November 6, 2017 in Madrid ) was a Spanish football player .

Club career

Feliciano Rivilla, along with his former teammates Jorge Griffa and Isacio Calleja, was one of the most important defenses of Atlético Madrid to this day . Together with the latter, he formed a great “full-back tong” that made it too much fame in the football world. After his first steps in football, the defensive player moved to Madrid at the age of 19 , where he was loaned to Real Madrid's second team and then to Rayo Vallecano .

After his apprenticeship years away from the Rojiblancos, he celebrated his debut in the dress of the red and white on September 21, 1958 in the 2: 4 defeat in Valencia . With four goals conceded and Rivilla on the pitch, the spectators saw an experience that would hardly be repeated in the future. With three cup wins and a championship in his time in the capital, he is still one of the most successful players who have ever been employed in the club. Of course, he was also part of the team that triumphed in the 1962 European Cup Winners' Cup final . Like his counterpart Calleja, Rivilla rarely stood for technical feats, but reduced his repertoire to the work of a defensive player at the time, so it is not surprising that he only scored seven goals in his entire career in red and white. He provided his services for over ten years before drawing a line in 1968 and ending his career as a footballer at the age of 32. Due to his services to the club, he bequeathed him a friendly game against the top Brazilian club FC Santos in late 1969 , where he was able to prove his qualities one last time.

National team

Rivilla was also an integral part of the Spanish national soccer team , as he won the European soccer championship in 1964 alongside his club colleagues . The final on June 21, 1964 in the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu decided the "selección" with his Atlético club coach José Villalonga Llorente after hits by Pereda and Marcelino with 2-1 goals against the Soviet Union led by goalkeeper Lev Yashin . His 26 international matches also included the two world championships in 1962 and 1966 . Rivilla was only used once at the 1962 World Cup in Chile in the group game on May 31 in Vina del Mar against the eventual finalists Czechoslovakia. In the group games in England in 1966 against Germany, Argentina and Switzerland, he was not considered. Most recently, the Atlético legend acted as vice-president of the Spanish association for former national players.
