Rino Marchesi (born June 11, 1937 in San Giuliano Milanese ( MI ), Italy ) is a former Italian football player and coach .
Rino Marchesi was known for his good technique during his active career and was able to organize the game very well from defense with his great overview.
Player career
In the club
Rino Marchesi began his career as a midfielder , later he was mostly used in the position of libero . His first professional station was Atalanta Bergamo , where he played from 1957 to 1960. He then moved to Fiorentina , with whom he reached the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup in the 1961/62 season , but what they lost in the replay with 0: 3 against Atlético Madrid . In the 1965/66 season Marchesi won the Coppa Italia with Florence . At Fiorentina he was a regular player from 1960 to 1965, and in the 1965/66 season he only made two appearances in the first team. Therefore, he moved to Lazio Rome in the summer of 1966 , where he was under contract for the following five seasons. In 1971 Marchesi finally went to AC Prato in the C series .
In the national team
Marchesi completed two international matches for the Italian national football team in his career . He made his debut on June 15, 1961 in a 4-1 win against Argentina , then played again on May 5, 1962 in a 2-1 win against France .
Coaching career
Rino Marchesi's first position as coach of a professional team was in 1973 with Montevarchi Calcio Aquila in 1902 , then he coached AC Mantova , Ternana Calcio , Como Calcio , Udinese Calcio , AC Venice , SPAL Ferrara , US Lecce , Avellino Calcio , SSC Naples and Juventus Turin .
His greatest success as a coach was reaching third place in Serie A in 1981 with SSC Napoli , when the championship was narrowly missed. Marchesi was later at Napoli Diego Maradona's first coach in Italy.
From 1986 to 1988 Rino Marchesi was a coach at Juventus Turin . However, he did not achieve presentable results with the team, mainly because the team was in a state of upheaval as the era of the team's great star, Michel Platini , came to an end during his tenure.
