Como 1907 (formerly Como Calcio ) is an Italian football club from the Lombard city of Como that was founded on May 25, 1907. The club colors are blue and white. The club's stadium is the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia , with space for 13,602 spectators. In the 2016/17 season, the club played in the Lega Pro . The team's nickname is Lariani .
history
The beginnings
After the first promotion to Serie A in 1949, Como stayed in the top Italian league for four years. The club then commuted between Series B and Series C for 20 years .
1970s
1975 Como returned to Serie A, but they were only able to hold on to one season. After the meantime in the Serie C1 was staying, the Lariani managed in 1978 two climbs in a row, reversing back into the Serie A return. This time the league was maintained in the first season, but they were relegated again in the second.
1980s
The club had to wait until 1984 before they could return to the House of Lords. As a result, Como experienced the hitherto most successful period in the club's history, and they played five seasons in a row in Serie A . The achievements of key players Dan Corneliusson and Stefano Borgonovo brought the club in 1986 to an excellent 9th place. They managed to defend this place in the 1987 season. In 1987 the strengths of the team were mainly in the defensive area, where Pasquale Bruno played an excellent championship. The high was quickly followed by a low, because relegation to Serie B was followed in 1990 by relegation to Serie C1 .
1990s
In the 90s Como played in Serie C1 with the exception of the 1994-95 season, when you are in the Series B took.
Recent development
2001 succeeded under the President Enrico Preziosi promotion to Serie B , but this success was overshadowed by an incident. In the game between Como and FC Modena on November 19, 2000 , the then captain of the Lariani Massimo Ferrigno hit the Modena player Francesco Bertolotti after the game. Francesco Bertolotti then fell so unhappily and suffered such severe head injuries that his life was in danger for a long time. Massimo Ferrigno was banned for three years for his assault.
In the following season Como succeeded in surprising promotion to the Serie A . The then coach Loris Dominissini had a large share in these successes , but he was unable to repeat the successes in the following Serie A. This despite the fact that various experienced players were signed for Serie A. At the end of the season they came in last place by far. Dominissini had been replaced by Eugenio Fascetti during the season , but even this could not save Como from relegation.
In the following Serie B season, the crisis continued, and there was another relegation to Serie C1 .
This double relegation caused severe financial problems and resulted in bankruptcy in 2005. The club was re-established and started playing again in Serie D. For the first time in the history of the club, the Lariani no longer played in a professional league.
In 2017 the club changed its name to Como 1907 .
