Michele Padovano (born August 28, 1966 in Turin ) is a former Italian football player .
During his playing career he was a striker and won the Champions League with Juventus Turin in 1996 .
After his active career, he worked for the Italian fifth division team US Alessandria Calcio as a sports director, but was fired in May 2006 on suspicion of drug trafficking. On December 12, 2011, he was sentenced to 8 years and 8 months in prison for drug trafficking in Turin.
Career
In the club
Michele Padovano began his professional career in 1985/86 in Serie C2 at Asti TSC . In October 1986 he moved to Cosenza Calcio , where he played for four years. With the Calabrian team he got into the series B on. In the summer of 1990 Padovano moved to Pisa Calcio , where he made his Serie A debut. He then played in Italy's top division for SSC Napoli , CFC Genoa and AC Reggiana .
Michele Padovano experienced the peak of his career between 1995 and 1997. He played for Juventus Turin and won six titles with coach Marcello Lippi's team , including the Scudetto and the Champions League . In the Champions League final against Ajax Amsterdam , he turned in the penalty shoot a penalty.
In the summer of 1997, Padovano was then sold by Juve to the English first division club Crystal Palace , but there he was rarely used. Therefore, he moved to the French Ligue 1 for FC Metz in 1998 . 2000/01 he was still active for Como Calcio in Serie A, at the end of the season Padovano ended his active career.
In the national team
In the spring of 1997, Michele Padovano was nominated for the first time for the Italian national team by Cesare Maldini . He made his debut on March 29, 1997 in a 3-0 World Cup qualifier against Moldova . Shortly before the next game against Poland , he suffered a serious knee injury in training and was out. As a result, the game against Moldova was his only international match.
