Ercole Rabitti (born August 24, 1921 in Turin , † May 27, 2009 in Ferrara ) was an Italian football player and coach .

Career

As a player

Ercole Rabitti began his career in the youth department of Juventus Turin . He made his Serie A debut on May 26, 1940 in a 2-1 win over SSC Napoli . In 1943 he left Juve and until 1955 played mostly in lower-class clubs. Between 1948 and 1952 Rabitti was under contract with AC Como , with whom he competed in Serie A from 1949 to 1952. His most successful season was in 1950/51 when the striker scored eleven goals.

As a trainer

In 1961, Ercole Rabitti returned to Juventus Turin as a youth coach. His first position as a full-time coach was in the 1966/67 season at Savona Calcio . However, the Italian rose very narrowly from Serie B in his first season with the club . In October 1969, Ercole Rabitti succeeded the dismissed Luis Carniglia as coach of Juventus Turin and led the Piedmontese club to third place in Serie A. In the 1979/80 season Rabitti inherited Luigi Radice as coach of Torino Calcio and reached the final of the Coppa Italia , where one only after a penalty shoot the Roma was beaten. In the course of the following season Ercole Rabitti was sacked at Toro .

Ercole Rabitti died on May 28, 2009 at the age of 87.
