Lorenzo D'Anna (born January 29, 1972 in Lecco ) is a former Italian football player and today's coach . The central defender had his most successful time at Chievo Verona , where he played for 13 years and played over 350 games, and he was also the captain of his team for many years.
Career
As a player
First years
D'Anna began his professional career at Como Calcio , where he came from his youth. There it was awarded to Pro Sesto in 1991 before moving to Fiorentina in 1992 . At Florence he came to ten missions in two years, in 1994 he left the club and moved to Chievo Verona.
Chievo Verona
At Chievo, D'Anna developed into an important regular player and became captain. D'Anna stood out for his good positional play and was considered the club's figurehead. With Chievo he celebrated promotion to Serie A in 2001 and took part in qualifying for the UEFA Champions League in 2002 . After Chievo was relegated to Serie B in 2007 , he left the club after 13 years and moved to Piacenza Calcio . D'Anna ended his career in 2008 after playing twelve league games for Treviso .
As a trainer
After D'Anna had finished his active football career, he returned to Chievo and served as an employee of the then sports director Giovanni Sartori. When the coach of Chievo's second team Paolo Nicolato moved to the professional team as an assistant coach, D'Anna decided to become a football coach and took over the second team.
On July 11, 2013, D'Anna was announced as the new coach of FC Südtirol at a press conference . After disappointing results, however, D'Anna was released a short time later. He then returned to Chievo and was a youth coach again until 2018.
In April 2018 he succeeded Rolando Maran in the Chievos first team. On October 9, 2018, he was released due to outstanding success.
