Fabiano Santacroce (born August 24, 1986 in Camaçari , Bahia ) is an Italian football player .

Career

In the club

Born in Brazil , Fabiano Santacroce moved to Monza in Lombardy with his Italian father and Brazilian mother at the age of two . In his youth he played for smaller teams in the region. With Como Calcio he played his first professional season in the C1 series in 2004/05 . After Como Calcio went bankrupt, he remained without a club until he was signed by Brescia Calcio . For the last two years in Brescia he was a regular player.

In January 2008 Santacroce moved to SSC Napoli . On February 2, 2008 he made his Serie A debut in the game against Udinese Calcio .

In the national team

Santacroce made his debut in the Italian U-21 team in the friendly against France on August 21, 2007, replacing the injured Marco Andreolli .

In the game of November 21, 2007 against the selection of the Faroe Islands, the defender was sent off because of an elbow blow, which is why he missed a possible participation in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing with the Italian Olympic team.

At the U-21 European Football Championship in 2009 , he failed with Italy in the semi-finals against Germany .

On October 5, 2008 Santacroce was appointed for the first time by coach Marcello Lippi in the Italian national team. He was not used in the World Cup qualifiers against Bulgaria and Montenegro .
