Sebastian Bengt Ulf Larsson (born June 6, 1985 in Eskilstuna ) is a Swedish football player . He can play both in midfield and in full defense.
Career
The young left-back's first club was IFK Eskilstuna in Sweden. At the beginning of the 2001/02 season, the then 16-year-old moved to England for the youth team of Arsenal FC . He made his debut in October 2004.
After he had only played three games by August 2006, he was awarded the Premier League relegated Birmingham City, where he received the number 7. The option to sign the player on a fixed basis was taken at the end of January. He signed a 4-year contract.
In 2011 he won the Carling Cup , the English league cup , with Birmingham City . With this title win, Larsson qualified with the club from Birmingham for the UEFA Europa League . Larsson rose with Birmingham City at the end of the season, however, from the Premier League. Larsson left Birmingham and moved to Sunderland for the 2011/12 season . After he was relegated with Sunderland at the end of the 2016/17 season as bottom of the table, he moved to co-relegated Hull City free of charge . In the EFL Championship 2017/18 he finished 18th with his new club, while Sunderland was relegated again in 24th. After the 2018 World Cup, he moved back to his home country for free to AIK Solna and became Swedish champions with the club.
National team
Larsson played twelve times for the Swedish U-21 national team between 2004 and 2006. On February 6, 2008, he debuted at the 0: 0 draw against the Turkish national team in the senior national team and was in the summer of coach Lars Lagerback in the squad for Euro 2008 appeal.
At the European Football Championship in France in 2016 , he was accepted as a regular player in Sweden's squad and played in the games against Ireland and Italy over the full season. In the decisive game against Belgium he was then substituted in the last third, but only the opponent scored one goal and Sweden was eliminated as the bottom of the group in the preliminary round.
After Sweden failed to qualify for the 2010 and 2014 World Cup tournaments, they qualified for the 2018 World Cup in Russia in November 2017 . Larsson was used in seven qualifying games, including the two playoff games in which the Swedes prevailed against four-time world champions Italy . Shortly before the 2018 World Cup , he played his 100th international match in a friendly against Peru . At the World Cup, Larsson was used in the three group matches and in the quarter-finals. After a 1-0 opening win against South Korea , the Swedes lost 2-1 to defending champions Germany with a goal in stoppage time , but were able to secure the group victory with a 3-0 win against Mexico , as the South Koreans who had already been eliminated 2-0 against Germany won. Since Larsson had received two yellow cards in the group games , he could not be used in the round of 16, which he won 1-0 against Switzerland . In the quarterfinals they then lost 2-0 to England, who would later be fourth, with 2-0.
In the 2018/19 UEFA Nations League , the Swedes played in League B, won their group and moved up to League B. Larsson was used in the four games and did not miss a minute.
