Kolbeinn Sigþórsson , also Kolbeinn Sigthorsson , [ kʰɔlpɛi̯tn̥ ˈsɪɣ.θou̯r̥ˌsɔn ] (born March 14, 1990 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic football player . The striker won the Dutch championship three times with Ajax Amsterdam and is the record scorer for the Icelandic national team . Kolbeinn is under contract with the Swedish first division club AIK Solna .

Career

In the club

Kolbeinn Sigþórsson was trained in his youth club Víkingur Reykjavík and made his professional debut in 2006 for HK Kópavogur . In 2007 he moved to the Dutch club AZ Alkmaar . In January 2011 he scored five goals in a league game against VVV Venlo . This makes Kolbeinn the second foreign professional after Afonso Alves to score more than four goals in a game in the Eredivisie .

On July 4, 2011, he signed a four-year contract with Ajax Amsterdam and was Dutch champions in the 2011/12 season . After a long injury break in the first half of the 2012/13 season, Kolbeinn earned a regular place and was in the starting line-up from the 24th matchday onwards. In the 2012/13 and 2013/14 seasons he was again Dutch champion with Alax. He played a total of 80 league games and scored 31 goals for Ajax.

For the 2015/16 season , the French first division club FC Nantes signed the attacker. There he came in his first season on 26 missions, where he was in 19 games in the starting lineup. Kolbeinn contributed three goals in a weakly attacking team (the second lowest number of hits of all 20 teams), which did not get beyond a rank in the lower middle of the table.

The Turkish club Galatasaray Istanbul lent the Icelandic striker in August 2016 for one season and had to commit him down for 3.8 million euros the option. Kolbeinn suffered a meniscus injury in September 2016 and missed the entire first half of the season. Galatasaray Istanbul prematurely terminated the contract on December 29, 2016 and the injured player returned to FC Nantes. On May 12, 2018, the penultimate matchday of the 2017/18 season , Kolbeinn was finally reinstated for the first time after his injury break. In the following season he was no longer used, so his contract was terminated on March 8, 2019.

On March 30, 2019, shortly before the start of the 2019 season , he joined the Swedish first division club AIK Solna . His contract runs until December 31, 2021.

National team

After Kolbeinn had already played for Iceland's youth teams, he played for the senior national team for the first time in 2010.

At the European Football Championship in France in 2016 , he was accepted into Iceland's squad. In the last 16 victory over England , he scored the winning goal in the 18th minute to make it 2-1. In the quarterfinals, he scored the goal to make it 4-1 in a 5-2 defeat against France. With his 26th international goal in a 2-0 win in the qualifying game for the 2020 European Football Championship against Andorra on October 14, 2019, he drew level with Eiður Guðjohnsen as the Icelandic national team's record scorer.
