Henok Goitom (born September 22, 1984 in Solna ) is a Swedish football player . The striker , whose family comes from Eritrea , has played his professional career mainly in southern Europe , but also plays for his parents' country of origin. Since 2017 he has been under contract with AIK Solna again .

Career

Goitom played in youth at FC Inter Orhoy and Essinge IK before moving to the youth department of the Italian club Udinese Calcio in 2003. There he made his debut in Serie A on February 19, 2005 . In the game against Inter Milan , the striker scored a goal with the 1-1 equalizer in the final minute. As a result, he sat on the club's bench several times, but was no longer used. Nevertheless, he was called up to the Swedish U-21 national team and made his debut in the 1-1 draw against the French junior national team that same month.

In summer 2005 he was loaned to Ciudad de Murcia in the Spanish Segunda División . There he impressed and scored 15 goals this season in the 2006/07 season. He was then signed by local rivals Real Murcia in the summer of 2007 . There is speculation about a transfer fee of 3.3 million euros.

Goitom made his debut in the Primera División on Matchday 1 of the 2007/08 season when he came on for Iván Alonso in the 65th minute of his new club's 2-1 home win over Real Zaragoza . On September 26, he was in the 0-1 home defeat against UD Almería for the first time in the starting line-up, but could not play permanently in the first team. He scored his first first division goal in Spain on December 16 in the game against Racing Santander . Five minutes after coming on for Íñigo in the 52nd minute , his goal opened the 2-1 victory. The season was unsuccessful, however, as penultimate he had to relegate with the club from the Spanish elite series.

However, Goitom remained in the Primera División and moved to Real Valladolid on loan . Following the one-year loan period, the Castile-León club had an option to buy. Here he was able to establish himself as a regular and contributed with ten goals scored this season as the club's best internal goalscorer to keep the club. Nevertheless, he left the club after the end of the season and went to the league rivals UD Almería , trained by Hugo Sánchez , where he should replace Álvaro Negredo, who had migrated to Real Madrid . At the beginning of the season he was out due to an injury. He made his debut for the new club on November 29, 2009 in a 4-1 home defeat by Athletic Bilbao when he came on as a substitute at half-time. For long stretches only supplementary player, he rose in the summer of 2011 with the club in the Segunda División. Despite his six goals this season, the club missed the play-off round to rise again as seventh in the table. In preparation for the following season, the club and the player dissolved the existing contract in mid-August 2012.

On August 16, Goitom signed a contract with the Swedish runner-up AIK until the end of 2015 . By the end of the season, he wavered between the starting line-up and bench and scored one goal. During the winter break, it moved into the focus of the Swedish press elsewhere in February 2013, when the furniture company IKEA took the traditional Swedish meatball dish Köttbullar out of sale as part of the horse meat scandal and the Swedish television station TV4 accompanied the news with a video of Goitoms while the dish was being consumed.

In the 2015/16 season he moved to Spain for Getafe FC , but after only two games in the first half of the season he went to the San Jose Earthquakes in Major League Soccer during the winter break .

After a season in the USA , he moved back to his former club AIK Solna in January 2017 . In the 2018 season , Goitom was able to celebrate the national championship with the club , with the striker being the top scorer of his team with 12 goals.

Others

Goitom founded the club Kista Galaxy FC in 2010 with his brother Habtemariam as well as the former Eritrean national soccer player Yonnas Seyoum and the Eritrean banker Robel Alazar. The club started when it was founded, in the 2010/2011 season in the ninth division 7. In the following years, two promotions followed, first in the eighth division 6 and in 2013 in the Swedish division 5. Goitom was also able to play the former Swedish junior international in 2011 Bojan Djordjic , persuaded to take over shares in the club and installed it as the club's sports director .
