Beginnings in Uruguay

Iván Alonso, who played for Defensor until the age of 15 , started his career as a professional footballer with River Plate Montevideo from his Uruguayan homeland. There he played from 1998 to 2000. The Uruguayan then moved to Spain.

Time in spain

With Deportivo Alavés he reached the 2001 UEFA Cup final , where they only had to admit defeat to big favorites Liverpool in extra time . Alonso contributed the first goal of his team in the final in the 5-4 ending encounter. In the 2002/03 season, he was relegated to the Segunda División . Iván Alsono stayed with the Basques for another year - but when they were narrowly defeated in a long distance duel with CD Numancia and Getafe FC on the last day of the 2003/04 season , he left the club and went to the first division relegated Real Murcia . In the 2006/07 season he managed to return to the first division with Murcia. He contributed as the top scorer of his team with 14 goals. In February 2009 he moved to Espanyol Barcelona . His team won the Copa Catalunya in 2009/10 and 2010/11 . The Trofeo Ciutat de Barcelona won his club against Sampdoria Genoa in 2010 , as did the Trofeo Ramón de Carranza that year.

Move to Mexico

In summer 2011, it was announced that Alonso Spain turns his back and in the Mexican Primera División in Toluca hires. Sort he completed a total of 34 first division games by April 29, 2012 in Apertura and Clausura in 2011 and 2012, respectively, and scored 25 goals, making him the top scorer in each case. In early July 2012 Alsonso announced that he was leaving the Mexican club. In making this decision, he gave health reasons, because due to heart problems, a stay in Toluca at 2,500 meters was not recommended by doctors.

Return to Uruguay

At the beginning of December 2012, Alonso's return to the football field of the Uruguayan club Nacional was under discussion after medical tests had delivered positive results. The dispute that had been going on with the Mexican club since his withdrawal with regard to the termination of this contractual relationship finally ended on January 11, 2013, when Nacional announced the completion of the change. By the end of the 2012/13 season, he was used in six games (three goals) of the Copa Libertadores 2013 and nine games (five goals) of the Primera División . In the 2013/14 season, he made 21 top division appearances and scored 15 goals. He also played six times in the 2014 Copa Libertadores (one goal). In the 2014/15 season he won the Uruguayan Championship with Nacional. He contributed to this with 28 first division games and 23 goals. He was also used twice (no goal) in the 2015 Copa Libertadores . He was also accurate in Apertura 2015 and scored eight goals in 13 league appearances. He also played twice (no goal) in the 2015 Copa Sudamericana . At the beginning of February 2016, he moved to the south side of the Río de la Plata and joined the Argentine capital club and reigning Copa Libertadores winner River Plate Buenos Aires . Alonso signed a contract through June 30, 2017. The transfer terms and conditions included two payments from River Plates totaling US $ 260,000 to Nacional and the hosting of a friendly game between the two teams, the proceeds of which would go entirely to the Uruguayan club.

So far (as of August 10, 2017) he has played 26 first division games (three goals), three games in the Copa Argentina (one goal), seven encounters (three goals) in the Copa Libertadores 2016 , the two clashes (no goal) in the Recopa Sudamericana 2016 and a game (no goal) of the Copa Libertadores 2017 .
