There are also 48 seasons in the Superettan .

history

Early years and first successes (1897–1920)

The team in the 1903/04 season

IFK Eskilstuna was founded on September 9, 1897 under the name IFK XXVI as a branch of the Idrottsföreningen Kamraterna in Eskilstuna, but soon received the name IFK VII . In the vernacular, however, the unofficial name IFK Eskilstuna prevailed.

In 1901 IFK Eskilstuna won its first title when IFK Köping was defeated in the first final for the Kamratmästerskapen . In the following year the trophy was successfully defended against IFK Uppsala .

In 1910, IFK Eskilstuna was one of the founding members of the Svenska series , where, in a first concentration of Swedish football, the team met clubs such as series champions Örgryte IS , AIK , IFK Norrköping or IFK Göteborg . However, only the last place in the league was occupied. The following year another game was played before they withdrew from the competition together with Vikingarnas FK and took part in the Mellansvenska series . 1917 succeeded the championship in this league. At the same time, they won the Kamratmästerskapen for the third time and defended the title there in 1918.

Championship and founding member of Allsvenskan (1920-1936)

In 1920 IFK Eskilstuna managed to return to the Svenska series. In 1921, the team also reached the final for the Svenska Mästerskapet for the first time . In front of 11,695 spectators, the championship game against IK Sleipner in the Stockholm Olympic Stadium was won 2-1. In 1923, the club was again in the final of the Swedish championship, which was lost to the AIK with 1: 5.

Thanks to the success, IFK Eskilstuna was one of the founding members of Allsvenskan in its first season in 1924/25 . There, the team immediately played against relegation. After two ninth and tenth places in the first few years, the club had to relegate at the end of the 1928/29 season as eleventh in the table together with Westermalms IF in the second division. With only two season defeats in Division 2 Norra succeeded in the immediate promotion. This time the club was able to hold onto the first class for six years and achieved the best result in the club's history with fifth place in the table in the 1931/32 season . In 1936, the second class had to be started again.

Between Allsvenskan and Third Class (1936–1964)

After initial places in the lower midfield, IFK Eskilstuna reported back in the promotion battle in the early 1940s. In 1941, the team reached the promotion round as the relay winner, but failed in a deciding game at Reymersholms IK, which was necessary for both teams after each victory . In the following year, the relay victory was repeated and again a playoff was necessary in the promotion round. This time, however, managed a 2-0 win against IK Brage . However, the level in the Allsvenskan was too high for the resurrected and with two wins this season and seven points, the direct return to the second division had to be started.

IFK Eskilstuna missed direct resurgence as season winner in 1944 only in the promotion round, when Ludvika FFI prevailed after a 1-1 draw at the beginning with a 3-1 return win. In the following years the performance could not be tied to and in 1947 the club rose due to a league reform together with BK Derby , IFK Värnamo , IFK Lidingö and Hammarby IF in the third division.

In the third division IFK Eskilstuna was able to establish itself in the middle of the table. In 1950, the team was in danger of relegation for a season, in the following years it was enough to places in the front of the table. When in 1953 the northern Swedish league pyramid was included in the entire Swedish league structure and subsequently the second division was expanded to three seasons, a third place in the table was sufficient to return to the second-highest league level.

IFK Eskilstuna was able to play their way directly to the top of the table in the second division. In the second year after the promotion, the club separated three points from promoted Västerås SK as second in the season . In 1957, the team managed to win the relay and reached two draws against GIF Sundsvall in the promotion round , so that a play-off was necessary again as in the early years. IFK Eskilstuna clearly won it 3-0 and returned to the Allsvenskan after 14 years of low-class football.

In the marathon season 1957/58 , which had been extended because of the 1958 World Cup in Sweden and the changeover of the game operations to the calendar year, eight victories of the season were achieved, so that IFK Eskilstuna had to relegate directly with two points behind AIK and Sandvikens IF . In the following years, the club placed in the front of the second division table without being able to intervene in the promotion race. In the season 1963 succeeded the season victory when the league was dominated with 19 wins in 22 season games. In the promotion round they met GAIS , GIF Sundsvall and Östers IF and were able to celebrate their return to the Swedish House of Lords undefeated with two draws. However, the Stippviste in the Allsvenskan was again short-lived, with three points behind Helsingborgs IF , the club had to relegate directly after the 14th first division season in the club's history.

Lower-class football (1964-)

After relegation to the first division, IFK Eskilstuna was able to stay in the front of the table for a long time. With the beginning of the 1970s, the team found itself only in the middle of the table. Only the club's youth team was able to attract attention nationwide when they won the Swedish championship in 1970.

In 1981 the club surprised and won the relay in Division 2 Norra . In the relegation, the team met the first division side Kalmar FF , but missed the return to the Allsvenskan after a 2-2 defeat in the beginning with a 2-2 draw. However, the team could not build on this success: In the following season they were three points ahead of the relegation places of relegation and in 1983 they stayed second to bottom only thanks to a league increase in the second division. In 1985 the youth won another trophy with their second championship title.

Years in the middle of the table followed before IFK Eskilstuna in 1987 as second in the northern season just behind Djurgårdens IF missed the renewed promotion. Five points behind Örebro SK , the placement was repeated the following year before things went downhill again. In 1992 the team finally missed relegation in the autumn championship and played in third class again almost forty years after being promoted to the second division in 1953.

In Division 2 Västra Svealand , IFK Eskilstuna initially occupied midfield positions, before in 1996 as third in the table, one point behind Enköpings SK, the promotion round was just missed. After another third place in the following year, he crashed into fourth class in 1999. Here the team took top places and reached the promotion round in 2002. The return to the third division was missed after a 0-0 draw in the first leg due to a clear 6-0 defeat against Älvsjö AIK . After renewed places in the middle of the table, the club qualified in 2005 as runner-up for the new, now fourth-class Division 2 Östra Svealand . After three years, the team had to be relegated to the fifth division in 2008 as bottom of the table.
