history

Westermalms IF was founded on August 1st, 1902. Barely a decade later, the team was already one of the best teams in Sweden, but without being able to win a title. Individual players such as Herbert Almqvist , Rune Bergström or Birger Carlsson were among a number of the club's players who were nominated for the Swedish national team and received international honors.

When the Allsvenskan was launched as the highest Swedish league in 1924, Westermalms IF missed the qualification and initially had to compete in second class. In their season, the team was able to win the championship before Sundbybergs IK and local rivals Djurgårdens IF and thus qualify for the promotion games. There they drew the short straw with two defeats against IK City and stayed in the second division. In the following season succeeded again before Sundbybergs IK and Djurgårdens IF the championship and thus the qualification for the promotion games. After a 2-2 draw at Örebro SK there was a clear 4-0 second leg win, so this time the promotion could be made perfect. In the first division, however, they could not keep the class and as the bottom of the table with two points behind the last non- relegation place occupied by IF Elfsborg , the club had to return to the second division after only one year. There Sundbybergs IK could be relegated to second place and in the promotion games the team prevailed after a 2-2 draw and a 2-1 away win against Hallstahammars SK . However, the first division again proved too strong for the club from Stockholm and as bottom of the table they said goodbye again directly from the House of Lords.

As seventh in the table Westermalms IF missed the direct return to the first division and in the second season only the better goal quotient against IK City saved the club from relegation to the third division. In 1933, however, the time had come: with five wins and three draws, the team was two points behind BK Derby at the end of the season and from then on only played in Division 3 . Here, third in the table, lacked ten points in the first season on the season winner and local rival Årsta SK , who rose to the second division. Only two years later, the next descent was due. Nine points from 18 games of the season meant the penultimate place in the table and thus, together with Västerås SK, the move to fourth division. With that, the club disappeared from the higher-class Swedish football.

The club's ice hockey department took part in the 1940 and 1946 seasons in the Swedish championship , which was then still held in cup mode .
