The club's ice hockey department took part in the Swedish championship , which was still held in cup mode at the time, several times in the 1940s .

history

Early years

The association was founded on April 27, 1903 in a constituent meeting that took place in a tailoring workshop. The initiators were some messenger boys who did not feel comfortable in IFK Norrköping , which is dominated by high school students . The club was therefore regarded as a working class for a long time afterwards. The name Sleipner comes from the horse Sleipnir of the Norse god Odin .

Sleipner played for the Swedish championship for the first time in 1920. The game against Djurgårdens IF at the Stockholm Olympic Stadium , however, was lost 1-0 after Harry Strundberg had converted a penalty in the 30th minute. The following year played for the championship again in the same place, this time against IFK Eskilstuna . They first took the lead through a goal from Bertil Kollberg , but received two goals in the final minutes from Gösta Pettersson and Henning Olsson , so that the final score 1: 2 was again not enough for the championship.

Successful years in excellence

Sleipner was also there when the Allsvenskan was introduced as the top division. The founding member belonged to her from their first season in 1924/25 to the season 1932/33 . Just a year after the first relegation, the club was able to return to the league and then took part continuously in the 1940/41 season.

The greatest success in the club's history came in the 1937/38 season, when they could distance themselves from the trio Landskrona BoIS , Helsingborgs IF and IF Elfsborg by 4 points and became Swedish champions. The league second Landskrona could even be beaten 6-0.

Between the second and fourth level of play

After relegation in 1941, IK Sleipner belonged to the second division in the 1940s. Sometimes the team narrowly missed the return to the House of Lords. Nevertheless, the local rival IFK Norrköping , which has since also had the greater interest of the residents of Norrköping, overtook the club over the course of the decade. In 1950 he even went down to the third class. Three years later, the return succeeded and the club established itself in the midfield of the second division in the following years, before he had to relegate again in 1960. The direct resurgence was followed by relegation and in 1964 the fall into the fourth class.

After two promotions, IK Sleipner returned to the second division in 1968. Here the team lasted for almost a decade and sometimes played in the front of the league. In 1977, the club from Norrköping had to start again in the third division. There he won the relay and in the promotion round he prevailed together with Degerfors IF . Initially, the team played against relegation, which was only avoided in 1980 thanks to the better goal difference compared to IFK Kristianstad tied on points . Two years later she was relegated and missed relegation against IF Heimer .

In 1986 IK Sleipner was the victim of a league reform and was demoted to the fourth division as seventh in the third division Division 3 Nordöstra Götaland . 1988 succeeded there the relay victory and in the third division missed the team with two points behind Tyresö FF as runner-up to the march into the second division. After the team as spring champions in 1991 and 1992 was allowed to compete in the second division in the fall, but had missed relegation both times, they made it back to the second division in 1993. There she missed relegation as penultimate table and had to relegate with Jonsereds IF , Karlskrona AIF and Lunds BK . After two years in the midfield of the league, the club achieved only four wins of the season in the 1997 season, so that relegation to the fourth division was due again.

Current situation

In 1998 IK Sleipner was promoted to third-class Division 2 Östra Götaland . First, the team played against relegation, which was only averted in 2000 in the relegation games against LSW IF . In the following years things went uphill and in 2004 a fourth place jumped out at the end of the season. In the following season, the club was victim of a league reform in Sweden: as fifth, the team had to compete in a relegation round against Anundsjö IF and Falu BS and relegated to fourth division after two defeats.

In Division 2 Mellersta Götaland , IK Sleipner missed direct promotion behind Skövde AIK as runner-up due to the three goals worse goal difference. After Motala AIF missed promotion again with the same placement the following year , qualification for Division 1 succeeded in 2008 with the relay victory . There the team established itself right away in the front of the table.
