history

The sports field in Jonsered

Jonsereds IF was founded on May 2nd, 1923. It was created as a merger of Jonsereds GoIF and Bokedalens IF . The football team of the fusion club entered 1924 in the first season of the unofficial second-rate Västsvenska series , in which as second in the table behind IFK Uddevalla, the promotion to the Allsvenskan was just missed. In the following years JIF stayed in the front area, before in the 1928/29 season of the now officially established Division 2 only the last place in the table jumped out. After three years in the third division, the team benefited from an increase in the second division and was able to return as third in the table.

Jonsereds IF, as runner-up behind Krokslätts FF from Mölndal, narrowly missed the march into the upper house. Initially, the team was able to establish itself again in the front of the table. In 1938, the club was in danger of relegation, but was able to hold the class before relegated Alingsås IF and Karlstads BIK . Two years later, relegation was missed as the penultimate before IF Örnen .

In the third division Jonsereds played for promotion. Several times the team succeeded in winning the relay in Division 3 Västsvenska Södra , but JIF regularly failed in the promotion games. Only when there was a direct promoter from the 1947/48 season onwards, the club was able to return to the second division as first in the league. After two years, the club missed relegation again and had to relegate to third division together with IK Sleipner , the champion from 1938. But even there the team could not last long and in 1952 they crashed into the fourth division.

1956 succeeded Jonsereds IF the return to the third division, in which succeeded before BK Häcken and Billingsfors IK with the relay victory the renewed promotion to Division 2. After the direct relegation, the team stayed in the third division for several years. Relegation in 1965 was followed by promotion in 1967. With only one point, however, the team had to accept direct relegation.

In 1973 Jonsereds managed to return to the third division again. There the team succeeded in winning the relay with eight points ahead of runner-up Holmalunds IF . In the promotion round, however, she missed the return to the second division. As bottom of the table you had to let IFK Hässleholm and Jönköpings Södra IF go ahead. In the third division, the club was then able to hold out until relegation in 1977, but managed to get promoted again immediately. Once again, the newcomer surprised and moved back into the promotion round. As in 1973, JIF failed there as the last and BK Forward and Karlstad BK were called the climbers. In the following years the club played steadily for promotion. 1985 succeeded again the relay victory, in the duel with Skellefteå AIK you missed the promotion again.

After a league reform in 1986 the table top could rise directly, Jonsereds IF 1988 benefited from this regulation. In the second division, the team played against relegation, which had to be accepted in 1991. After the direct resurgence, JIF only occupied one relegation place in 1994. After a success over Husqvarna FF , the club failed in the second round to Norrby IF from Borås and had to relegate again. After years in the middle of the third division, JIF found itself here in 1998 on a relegation place. In the duel against Ljungby IF they lost out and had to go to the fourth division. There they played for the recovery. This succeeded in 2002 and then JIF played third class until 2004. In 2005 the club qualified for the newly created fourth-class Division 2.
