Alingsås IF is a Swedish sports club from Alingsås . The soccer team played briefly in the second highest Swedish league in the 1930s and 1960s.

history

Alingsås IF was founded in 1906 and initially played lower class when the Swedish league pyramid was introduced in the 1920s. After the club was promoted to the third division in 1932, it immediately established itself in the front and reached the promotion round to the second division in 1935 as a season winner. There she lost to Oskarström IS , but the competitor withdrew for financial reasons and Alingsås IF rose. In the second division, the club played against the direct relegation, which was only avoided due to the better goal quotient compared to the same point competitor IFK Värnamo . The following year, the team surprised as third in the table behind Degerfors IF and Karlskoga IF , before relegating to the third division together with Karlstads BIK at the end of the third season in the second division.

After relegation, Alingsås IF established itself in the middle of the table in its third division season, with the team at times being in danger of relegation. When the number of seasons was reduced from 17 to four at the end of the 1946/47 season, the club fell victim to the league reform. In the late 1950s, the club slipped into the fifth division, but returned to the third division for the 1962 season. Already in the second season at this level, the team played for promotion to the second division, only the worse goal difference compared to the same point season winner Grimsås IF prevented the return in 1963. Two years later, the club reported back as a season winner before Kinna IF in the second division.

Alingsås IF landed in fifth place in the first year in the front midfield and was able to confirm this position in fourth the following year. Again the stay in the second division lasted three years, together with Norrby IF and BK Derby , the club was relegated in 1968. In the third division, the team initially played for the promotion, which was only just missed several times as second or third in the table. The 1986 season ended bitterly for the club: If in previous years he had placed in the middle of the league at worst, he only managed one win of the season. Since the number of relay teams was reduced again in the course of a league reform, the last place in the table was synonymous with a demotion to fifth division.

After Alingsås IF had returned to the fourth division at the end of the 1992 season, they were promoted to the third division at the end of the 1994 season. Here, however, the club could not hold and rose directly from bottom of the table and was then passed through to the sixth division until the end of the 1990s. Returned to the fifth division in 2001, the club fluctuated between fifth and sixth level in the following years.
