The Grimsås Idrottsförening is a Swedish sports club from Grimsås . In the course of the club's history, which began in 1932, the club's football team played second-rate for several years.

history

The Grimsås IF was founded in 1932. A short time later, the football team took part in the league for the first time, but initially only played lower class. In the district championship, the club reached the semi-finals in 1945, which ended with a clear 0-13 defeat against Allsvenskan club IF Elfsborg . In 1958 the club began to soar when they became champions in the sixth division. He then marched through the individual leagues and rose in 1963 as the first in the third division season Sydvästra Götaland before Alingsås IF and Fässbergs IF for the first time in the second division.

As a climber Grimsås IF surprised in Division 2 Västra Götaland and finished third behind Halmstads BK and Gunnarstorps IF in the 1964 season. Under player-coach Lennart Nyström, the club reached the promotion round to Allsvenskan as the season winner in the following year. After a 1-0 away win at Gefle IF , defeats to GAIS and IK Brage followed , so that the club missed promotion as third. Nevertheless, the coach received the Borås Tidning sports award , the BT plaques . In the following years, the team could not build on the success, but initially stayed in the middle of the table. In 1971, the team fell victim to a league reform when the number of second division seasons was reduced, and had to relegate to the third division.

Without losing the season, Grimsås IF ended the third division season in 1972 in first place in the table. In the subsequent promotion round, the club only had to admit defeat Degerfors IF and returned directly to the second division. After two seasons that ended in the middle of the table, the team slipped into the relegation battle from the 1975 season. After initially a point ahead of Gothenburg club Västra Frölunda IF saved the team, followed by a tenth place in the 1977 season as bottom of the table with only two wins this season, relegated to the third division.

With only one loss of the season, Grimsås IF led the third division table again straight away and prevailed in the promotion round without losing points in front of Kalmar AIK , Råå IF and IFK Tidaholm . This time, the newcomer initially settled in the front area. In the 1980 season, the club finished fourth, two points behind the tied trio Örgryte IS , GAIS and IFK Malmö . In the following season the disillusionment followed when the season ended on a relegation zone. Again, the direct resurgence followed, but the club could only hold two seasons in the second division.

In the third division, Grimsås IF only just saved themselves from marching through to the fourth division, as the last non-relegation place in Division 3 Mellersta Götaland was occupied. As third in the table, the club survived a league reform at the third level in the following year, but rose the following year. In the following years the team commuted between third and fourth league. After she had established herself in the third division from the mid-1990s, she rose again to the fourth division as part of a league reform in 2005. There the club occupied the relegation place and missed the league against BK Kenty .

As third in the table, Grimsås IF missed promotion in the first two years in the fifth division before the team was relegated to the sixth division in 2009.
