history

Gunnarstorps IF was founded on March 11, 1927. From 1931, the soccer team took part in the league, but initially only played lower class. 1953 succeeded for the first time promotion to the third division. As the penultimate of Division III Södra Götaland you descended directly. However, the direct return followed and as the relay winner even managed to march through to the second-class Division II Östra Götaland . Here, however, the team had no chance and with only three victories of the season Gunnarstorps IF directly relegated.

1959 succeeded Gunnarstorps IF the renewed promotion to Division II Östra Götaland . As a table ninth with two points ahead of the relegation place occupied by Höganäs BK this time the class could be held before a year later the club again lived up to its reputation as an elevator team and again relegated to the third division together with IF Saab and Hässleholms IF . Here, with the third division championship, they immediately returned to the second division. This time the team was able to establish itself and in 1964, as runner-up behind Halmstads BK, just barely missed the promotion round to Allsvenskan. Two years later, the team won the season ahead of IFK Malmö and met IF Saab, Hammarby IF and IFK Holmsund in the promotion round . After a 1-1 draw against Hammarby IF and a 2-0 defeat against IFK Holmsund, the team was still promising in the race. A win against bottom IF Saab would only prevent the other two teams from being promoted. But this is exactly what happened; while IF Saab was outclassed with a 7-0 win, the competition parted with a 1-1 draw. So Hammarby IF and IFK Holmsund rose to the Allsvenskan.

As eleventh in the table, Gunnarstorps IF rose in the following year from the second division and, as third in the table, missed direct resurgence in 1968. 1970 succeeded the third division championship and thus the renewed promotion to the second division. With only four wins this season, the team was unable to hold onto the class there. Even in the third division things went downhill gradually and in 1974 the team crashed into the fourth division. In 1977 the club reported back one season in the third division, but could not hold the class again. 1982 was relegated from the fourth division and thus the club said goodbye to the higher-class Swedish football.
