history

IFK Holmsund was founded on June 8, 1923. For a long time, the club only played lower class. In 1952, the team rose to Division 3 for the first time and took sixth place in the Norrländska Norra relay . In the second season succeeded the relay win before IFK Luleå and Bodens BK , so that the club rose to the second division .

IFK Holmsund was able to establish itself right away in the front table area of the second division. In 1958, the team was one point behind Skellefteå AIK runner-up in the Norrland season . In the following three seasons, the league title was just as narrowly missed behind IFK Luleå, which regularly failed in the promotion games. In 1962 the championship title could be celebrated with only seven goals conceded in 18 games. However, the team failed in the promotion games as bottom of the table without a point win at IS Halmia , AIK Solna and Landskrona BoIS . In 1963 and 1964, only the runner-up title was achieved behind GIF Sundsvall . After only third place jumped out in 1965, IFK Holmsund was able to get the championship title in the relay again in 1966. In the promotion round, the opponents were Hammarby IF , Gunnarstorps IF and IF Saab . Without defeat, he was promoted to the Swedish elite series as second behind Hammarby IF.

The first division, however, proved too difficult for IFK Holmsund. With only three wins of the season and one draw, the last place was taken and together with the promoted team from Stockholm, the team had to relegate immediately.

In the second division, the team initially only occupied midfield. In 1971 and 1972, the club reported back as the respective runner-up briefly back in the top group of the northern Swedish second division division. In 1973, however, the club fell from bottom of the table with only ten points in the third division.

IFK Holmsund missed direct resurgence as runner-up behind Sandåkerns SK . In the following seasons, the team was only placed in the midfield, only in 1978 as third and 1979 as runner-up you could play again in the promotion race. In 1980, however, the club found itself in a relegation battle, in the end the club saved the better goal difference compared to the same point competitor Tegs SK . In 1982, the team was relegated to third from bottom in Division 4 , but managed to return directly with only two defeats this season. 1986 succeeded the relay victory, in the promotion games necessary because of the league reform, however, the team failed on Skövde AIK on penalties . The following season succeeded again in the relay win, but this time meant direct promotion to the second division.

After 15 years in the third and fourth leagues, IFK Holmsund reported back as eighth in the second division. A year the team played against relegation, but could keep the class with a point ahead of Åtvidabergs FF . In 1990 the team was penultimate with two victories this season. Due to financial problems, the association had to file for bankruptcy.

The restart was approached under the name Holmsunds FF in the eight-class Division 7 . The team was able to quickly fight its way up to Division 4 . In 1996 it was decided to found a syndicate with Obbola IK from the third division 2 . After a year in which the third place was occupied, this broke up again, but the team from Holmsund took over again under the name IFK Holmsunds the place in the third division, while Obbola IK competed in the fifth division.

In the third division, IFK Holmsunds was initially able to place in the middle part of the table, but in 2001 a relegation place was occupied. In the fourth division, the team found it just as difficult and found themselves in the back of the table. In 2004 the season ended on the relegation site. In the relegation round, however, the club was able to prevail. A year later, the league system in Sweden was reformed and as fifth IFK Holmsunds missed the qualification for the new fourth league and stayed in Division 3, which is only fifth class. As a champion, however, the immediate return to the fourth division succeeded.
