Career

Like his brothers, Gösta Nordahl began his football career in his hometown at Hörnefors IF . It was there that IFK Norrköping's coach Carl-Elis Halldén discovered him and in 1950 brought him to the club with his twin brother Göran, where his older brothers Gunnar and Knut had already played successfully. As a regular player in midfield alongside Einar Karlsson and Herbert Sandin , he and the team won the Von Rosens Cup for the Swedish champions in the 1951/52 season .

In 1954, Nordahl ended his first division career for the time being. He briefly ran again for Hörnefors IF before he joined the second division club IFK Holmsund . There he was the person in charge of Svenska Fotbollförbundet and Rudolf Kock , at that time head of the selection committee of the Swedish national team summoned him for the friendly against Finland on 22 September 1957. On the side of Gunnar Gren , Kalle Svensson , Prawitz Öberg and Sigvard Parling he denied his only game in the national jersey. He was considered a candidate for the 1958 World Cup , but was not included in the final squad due to injury.

Nordahl narrowly missed promotion to Allsvenskan several times with IFK Holmsund. In the second division season in 1962 he achieved the team victory in the Norrland season , but failed as the group bottom behind IS Halmia , AIK and Landskrona BoIS in the promotion round. After several runners-up championships, he won the relay again in 1966. This time the team prevailed against Gunnarstorps IF and IF Saab and reached the Swedish elite series as second behind Hammarby IF . Here he played another year and, at 38 years, eleven months and seven days, was one of the ten oldest players in the history of the Allsvenskan.

Nordahl's son Per-Gösta Nordahl played in the 1970s as a goalkeeper for BK Derby, among others in the Allsvenskan. He was also nominated twice for the Swedish U-21 team.
