Vincent Peter "Vinnie" Jones (born January 5, 1965 in Watford , England ) is a British actor and former football player . After his active time as a professional footballer , he devoted himself to acting .

Football career

Jones began his career in 1984 at Wealdstone FC in the English fifth division, then known as the Alliance Premier League , while also working on construction sites. After 2 years he moved to Sweden for one season at IFK Holmsund in the lowest Swedish professional class. Between 1986 and 1990, Jones played for Wimbledon FC (with which he won the FA Cup in the 1987/88 season) and Leeds United , before moving to 6th from 1992 after brief stints with the Sheffield United and Chelsea FC teams Years for Wimbledon FC and finally ended his playing career with the Queens Park Rangers in 1999 as a player- coach. He was also appointed to the Welsh national team in 1994 , for which he made his debut on December 14 in the qualifier for the 1996 European Football Championship against Bulgaria . He was also the captain of the selection.

He was known for his physical style of play, which earned him his nickname "the ax". He also became famous for a snapshot showing him during a game when he grabbed his opponent Paul Gascoigne in the testicles . Jones is also said to still hold the record for the fastest yellow card (received within three seconds of kick-off) as a Chelsea player against Sheffield United in 1992. Jones was sent off 13 times in his career and played a total of 438 professional games.

Jones has remained deeply connected to British football since retiring as a professional. He was substituted on in the second half of a game by Carlisle United in 2001 , donated his FA Cup medal to his long-term employer, Wimbledon FC, or holds the office of president for the regional league team Soham Town Rangers FC.

Acting career

On the side, Jones acted in several television roles, had his own radio shows and wrote for a major English newspaper for six years. He was later offered a role in the film Jack, Queen, King, grAS by Guy Ritchie , which he accepted. He decided in 1999 to end his active football career to focus entirely on acting. He achieved high fame as an actor in his second role for Guy Ritchie in the film Snatch - Pigs and Diamonds . Jones proved to be a natural and received many awards (including "Best Newcomer from the Odeon Cinemas' People's Choice Awards", "Best Debut Performance from the Variety Club of Great Britain" and "Empire Magazine's Best Newcomer"). He played u. a. in the films Just 60 seconds and password: with Swordfish and in 2002 signed a contract for six film roles with Morgan Freeman . He was also seen in the film Mean Machine , in which he plays the ex-captain of the England national team who is in prison for assault. In the movie Euro Trip , he acted as leader of the hooligans of Manchester United . In X-Men 3 he plays the role of Juggernaut . In 2008 he took on a role in the horror film The Midnight Meat Train . In the documentary series Toughest Cops , he accompanied police officers in various countries in their daily work.

In an ironic instructional video from 2011 by the British Heart Association , he explains life-saving chest compressions as a gang boss .

Private life

In 1994 Jones married soccer player Steve Terry's ex-wife , Tanya Terry. She brought a daughter into the marriage, and together they fathered a son, Aaron. He also speaks with the words "I am very proud to be British, for the royal family and very conservative." ( "I am very proud of being British, very pro the monarchy and very Conservative." ) As a supporter of the Conservative England party out. Between 2014 and 2015, both Jones and his wife jointly defeated a skin cancer that they had independently developed. His wife died in July 2019 after a long and serious illness.
