action

Stuart Conway received his PhD in Theoretical Physics from Berkeley University and was hired by the US military to work on the military application of string theory . Since after five years he still had no results and had alienated all colleagues due to his inability to deal with people, his research funding was cut and he was withdrawn from his position. He then secretly stole the prototype of a handheld device called Slipstream , which is supposed to make time travel possible. According to previous tests, however, trips into the past were only possible for a maximum of ten minutes. He wants to test the device himself for the first time in a branch of the Gateway Bank . There he tries to reach an appointment with the bank teller Margaret, on whom he had his eye. However, due to his poor social skills, he annoys women with his clumsy pick-up lines. When he wants to cash his paycheck several times in a row with the time machine, the branch is attacked by a group of bank robbers led by Winston Briggs.

The FBI agent Sarah Tanner, who is also in the counter hall with her partner Jake to shadow Stuart Conway, meets the gangsters with guns drawn. The tense situation escalates into a wild shootout when Stuart irritates the bank robbers with beeping noises from his time machine. The physicist is shot deadly and asks Sarah to pick up the device and start it. Both travel together a few minutes into the past until shortly before the attack. Sarah quickly realizes what has happened and tries to thwart the attack with her knowledge of the coming events. According to this, only people who have touched the device and people connected to it have knowledge of the time jump. Now Winston steals the device and shoots Sarah's partner Jake while trying to escape.

Stuart and the agent chase the gang on a highway, where the criminals have since hijacked a bus and taken its occupants hostage. After negotiating with the police, they release some hostages and mingle with them unnoticed in order to escape. After Winston's helper stayed behind and his partner was shot, he was left on his own and forced Stuart to come with him. At the airport, the two manage to get on board a line plane disguised as pilots. Sarah has followed them and is also in the plane. After take-off, there was a shooting in the plane in which a bullet smashed through a window. The sudden drop in pressure causes the aircraft to crash. The second the plane crashes on a mountain, Stuart succeeds in reactivating the time machine. This time the time jump goes back in time and both are still in their pilot suits, in the situation before the attack on the bank. Winston is currently sitting with his people in the van in front of the bank and Stuart is standing in front of the cashier at whom he wants to cash his check. Winston breaks off the bank robbery and Stuart meets Margaret for coffee.

Reviews

"Nicely played science fiction thriller that once again uses the time machine myth to help the otherwise very old-fashioned story through paradoxes."

"Some nice slow-motion effects raise the crime adventure above the genre average as well as the familiar faces."

“The film has a wonderfully exuberant Brit gangster, played by Vinnie Jones, on its credit. In view of the sometimes hair-raising dialogues, countless logic holes (a nasty side effect of the 'time travel' topic) and a shallow story that makes itself obsolete after 90 minutes, one would somehow wish for a similar device to somehow decide to switch on 'Slipstream' to be revised.
