Hakeem Kae-Kazim (born October 1, 1962 in Lagos ) is a British - Nigerian actor who became famous for his role as Georges Rutaganda from the film Hotel Rwanda . In addition to his acting activities, he also regularly voices video game characters.

Early years

Kae-Kazim was born in the Nigerian city of Lagos, where he grew up for the first few years before his parents moved with him to the British capital London . Even during his school days he was on stage for school performances, but also at the National Youth Theater , which solidified his interest in an acting career. After graduation, he studied at the Bristol Old Vic Theater School , which he graduated in 1987 and later joined the Royal Shakespeare Company .

Career

After standing alongside great actors like Brian Cox and Ian McKellen for some time on the theater stage, he soon found his way into the film and television world and was then seen in several British series in guest roles, such as The District Nurse , The Bill , Screen One , Caribbean Adventure , Love Hurts , The Price of Crime, and Sindbad's Adventure . In 1994 he played a supporting role as Mr. Manyeke in the series Grange Hill .

He then moved to South Africa for a while , where he made a name for himself with his roles there in film and television. In 2004 he played the role of the politician and war criminal Georges Rutaganda , whom he played at the critically acclaimed Hotel Rwanda , alongside Don Cheadle , Sophie Okonedo , Nick Nolte and Joaquin Phoenix . Around 2006, Kae-Kazim moved to the United States and settled in Los Angeles with his wife and two daughters . In 2007 he played a small role as Pirate Lord Captain Jocard in Pirates of the Caribbean - At World's End , the third part of the Pirates of the Caribbean saga . Further supporting roles in the film followed in The Quest - The Secret of the King's Chamber , The Jinn , 24: Live Another Day , X-Men Origins: Wolverine , Die vierte Art , Darfur , Black Gold or Last Flight To Abuja .

After moving to the States, Kae-Kazim took on, in addition to his film appearances, mainly guest roles in US series. These include Lost , Cane , Law & Order: Special Victims Unit , Criminal Minds , Navy CIS: LA , Covert Affairs , Strike Back , Gotham , Der Denver-Clan , Scorpion , Roots , MacGyver or The Looming Tower . In 2009 he was seen in the seventh season of Series 24 as Ikè Dukabu . He played a bigger role from 2014 to 2016 as Mr. Scott in the Starz series Black Sails . In 2018 he was seen as the Greek god Zeus in the series Troy - Fall of a City .

In addition to his acting roles, Kae-Kazim is a regular guest on TV and radio and has voiced characters from numerous video games, including Guild Wars: Nightfall , Halo 3: ODST , Halo: Reach , Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 , and Saints Row or World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth .

Outside employment

Kae-Kazim is the global ambassador of Africa 2.0 , an organization that has been active since 2010 to build a platform for the future development of African states under a new generation of political leaders.
