content

Lucas Till , starring the protagonist Angus MacGyver

The protagonist is Twen Angus MacGyver , or “Mac” for short, who works within the US government in a secret organization, the Phoenix Foundation (under Patricia Thornton formerly "Department of external services"). Together with his team, he carries out high-risk missions around the world. His team includes Matilda Webber , director of operations , his roommate Wilt Bozer , hacker Riley Davis and Desi Nguyen . She is responsible for the security of the agents and is also a friend of Jack Dalton , who left the Phoenix Foundation team after leaving for an important mission. MacGyver's talent is to solve problems unconventionally and with scientific knowledge.

Origin and production

In October 2015, Henry Winkler , who produced the original series, and directors James Wan and R. Scott Gemmill agreed to produce a television series for CBS that would revive the original series MacGyver . In February 2016, it was announced that CBS had produced a pilot episode staged by Wan. Due to the deadline, however, Wan withdrew, whereupon David Von Ancken replaced him. In May 2016, CBS gave the green light to produce a first season. As showrunner acts Peter Lenkov . In June 2016, CBS dropped the pilot episode and announced that Wan would direct a new pilot episode.

The main male role was cast in March 2016 with Lucas Till . The role of the eponymous main character's best friend went to George Eads . The female lead got Addison Timlin and Michelle Krusiec . After it became known in June 2016 that the pilot episode would be re-staged, Timlin and Krusiec were replaced by Sandrine Holt and Tristin Mays .

The series takes place in the same series universe as Hawaii Five-0 , since the police psychologist Dr. Madison Gray, who kills serial killers on the island of Oahu , is mentioned in the episode Zodiac Killer and because there is a crossover in which Mac, Jack, Riley and Bozer travel to Hawaii to help after an earthquake and on Chin and Meet Kono of the Five-0 Task Force.

Cast and dubbing

The German dubbing was created under the dialogue book by Cornelius Frommann, Marcel Kurzidim, Andreas Pohr, Oliver Müller, Carina Krause , Christian Kähler and Claudia Frese-Otto under the dialogue direction by Boris Tessmann by the dubbing company Scalamedia GmbH in Berlin .

criticism

In the Süddeutsche Zeitung , Jürgen Schmieder judged the series after the first broadcast of the first episode as an example of the fact that new editions of once-successful formats were not successful. In contrast to the original series, the main character MacGyver is neither clever nor personable, but is an "arrogant snob and know-it-all" and is just lucky.

At Serienjunkies.de, author Christian Junklewitz says: "MacGyver 2016 is like the theme music: There are a few echoes of the original MacGyver series, but otherwise the series is hardly for nostalgics."
