Sandrine Holt
Sandrine Holt (born November 19, 1972 in London , born Sandrine Ho ; Chinese 何家蓓 , Pinyin Hé Jiābèi ) is a Canadian actress .
Life
Sandrine Holt's mother has French roots, her father is of Chinese origin. When she was five years old, her family moved to Toronto , Ontario, Canada. Here she attended St. Joseph's Morrow Park High School in Willowdale and worked as a model in Paris at the age of thirteen before taking up acting. During her school days she attended film lectures and later acting classes in Los Angeles and New York. Her artistic role models include Maggie Cheung , Frances McDormand , Emily Watson and Kate Winslet .
Sandrine Holt is fluent in French and was married to the music producer Travis Huff, from whom she is divorced. She lives with her daughter in the district of Silver Lake in Los Angeles and is learning Mandarin .
Artistic career
Sandrine Holt got her first television role at the age of 17 and made her film debut two years later (1991) in the feature film Black Robe by Bruce Beresford , based on the novel of the same name by Brian Moore , in which she played the leading female role Algonquin - Indian woman mimed. Her performance caught the attention of Kevin Costner and Kevin Reynolds , who she cast in 1994 for her first leading role in a Hollywood production - Rapa Nui (1994) with Jason Scott Lee and Cliff Curtis ( Whale Rider ).
In subsequent films she repeatedly played comparable roles, such as in Die Unfassbaren (Once a Thief) and the eponymous series offshoot by John Woo , as Pocahontas in Pocahontas - Die Legende (1995), the episode film 1999 and in Resident Evil: Apocalypse . “Les rôles secondaires sont habituellement américain africain, asiatique ou hispanique. Her acting versatility has given her a large number of high-profile roles, especially in Canadian independent films : For example, in the character of Poppy Twelvetrees in Bruce McDonald's Dance with a Murderer (Dance Me Outside), which premiered at the 1994 Toronto Film Festival . Together with David Bowie and Harvey Keitel, she shone in 1998 in Il Mio West (Gunslinger's Revenge). Other independent projects include Loving Jezebel and Century Hotel (premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival 2001) by David Weaver. Holt's subsequent international productions were 1999 with Jennifer Garner and Amanda Peet and the thriller Ballistic with Antonio Banderas and Lucy Liu in 2002 . The following year she starred in the romantic comedy Happy Hour with Eric Stoltz and Anthony LaPaglia and in the commercially successful action film Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004).
Her first recurring role in a television series played Sandrine Holt from 1996 to 1998 in Die Unfassbaren (Once a Thief). "For the first time in my career I am playing a role that does not correspond to the stereotypical image of a woman of Asian origin [...] The action scenes are what I enjoy most, because I can really come out of myself," she comments on her character Investigator Li Ann Tsei . This was followed by guest roles in five episodes of Las Vegas (2005) and a year later in the fifth season of 24 (10 episodes) as Evelyn Martin .
Since 2007, Sandrine Holt guest appearances as Catherine Rothberg in Showtime -Erfolgsserie The L Word - When women love women and starred in the BBC - miniseries Burn Up (2008), the critically with the topics of climate change and peak oil apart sets.
