The Phantom (also called The Phantom - The world has a new hero! ) Is a Canadian two-part mini - series that was produced in 2009 and is based on the comic of the same name .

action

Law student Chris Moore is informed by a stranger named Abel Vandermaark that he is not who he thinks he is, but in fact the son of the masked criminal hunter "The Phantom". Chris thinks the whole thing is utter nonsense, but is taught otherwise when he finds his adoptive parents murdered shortly afterwards. He turns to Vandermaark, who takes him to the island of Bengalla. There an organization of specialists was just waiting to train him to become a phantom and to support him in the fight against the criminal Singh Brotherhood and their world domination plans.

On July 29, 2008, Daniel Knauf and his son Charles Knauf announced that they were to write a script for a four-hour television series about the 22nd Phantom for the SCI FI Channel .

It was important to the producers that they stay very close to the comic, but the costume was revised and modernized a bit. The film was intended as a pilot for a series that was never produced.

The film was received negatively by critics and fans. The intended series did not go into production.

The miniseries ran on December 20, 2009 as a two-part television film on The Movie Network . In June 2010, the station Syfy broadcast the film.

German-speaking area

In Germany, the RTL Group secured the rights to the miniseries and decided to broadcast the film on August 13, 2011 on RTL . On September 23, it was shown again on the German Syfy and on April 11, 2016 on Tele 5 .
