Oswald Rathmann

August Oswald Ernst Rathmann (born May 7, 1901 in Magdeburg , † September 15, 1957 in Mähringen ) was a German homeland poet.

Life

His parents were the railway chief secretary Friedrich Oswald Rathmann and Amalie Marie Luise, geb. Messerschmidt. He went to secondary school in Delitzsch and later to a private school in Leipzig . In 1919 he followed his father to the railroad, and later switched to the Bitterfeld coal mine as an apprentice . From 1925 he began to write short stories, short stories, stories for children and young people and novels. In addition, he wrote numerous historical and local history articles in many newspapers. After marrying Dorothea Böttcher in 1935, Rathmann moved to Herrenberg , later to Bebenhausen and finally to Mähringen . The marriage resulted in two sons, Traugott Oswald (* 1938 ) and Hartmut (* August 21, 1941 ).

Rathmann's stories mostly deal with historical, local history and Christian topics.

In addition to numerous local history and historical articles in newspapers and magazines (e.g. Kosmos , Ronneburger Anzeiger, Ronneburger Heimatblätter, Gothaische Tageblatt, Sachsen-Altenburgischer patriotic history and house calendar) Rathmann published novels, short stories as well as children's and youth stories. These were also published in various Christian magazines, such as Immergrün, Christrosen, Helping hands, youth bells, the Christian folk teller or way flowers. In 1941 he received the third prize for his contribution "Soldier goes on the - toad hunt" in the magazine Kosmos.
