natur + kosmos , formerly natur & kosmos , was a popular science magazine . It was published monthly from 1999 to May 2012 by Konradin Medien GmbH, a company of the Konradin Media Group , with a circulation of 81,110 copies (IVW II / 2009).
history
The magazine was created in 1999 from the merger of Germany's first environmental magazine nature , which in 1980 by Horst Stern was founded, and in 1904 founded the magazine Kosmos from the Franckh-Kosmos-Verlag . natur + kosmos was committed to both traditions and combined politically critical environmental reporting with scientific and consumer-oriented articles.
In May 2006 the magazine (editor-in-chief Ilona Jerger) repositioned itself and devoted itself even more to the topic of sustainability. Since then, the heart of the magazine has been the so-called Project Future . Together with more than twenty partners from science , politics , business and environmental associations around the world , the editorial team selected projects that are equally forward-looking in ecological , economic and social terms. These projects were presented in the magazine and were intended to illustrate what positive globalization can look like.
With the June 2012 issue, the magazine was renamed nature again .
Conception
A wide range of topics were covered, all of which are related to nature , the environment and sustainability . It showed how aesthetics are related to biodiversity or how climate protection is related to poverty reduction.
Each month, topics from the areas of politics and business , consumers and health , nature and knowledge , art and culture as well as people and opinions were presented in the magazine, sometimes in the form of a report, sometimes as a feature, history of knowledge, portrait, essay or interview. The content was completed by short messages, puzzles and book presentations.
The website contained further current news, information about the stories in the magazine, surveys and image databases where photographers could post their nature photos.
