Faces in the Crowd ( German  faces in the crowd ) is a thriller from 2011 by director Julien Magnat with Milla Jovovich in the lead role. The film shows the great challenges a person faces when dealing with the disease prosopagnosia . This facial blindness is shown in the film by sometimes using different actors for the same role.

action

Elementary school teacher Anna Marchant leads a down-to-earth and happy life with boyfriend Bryce. On the way home from a party, she witnesses a brutal murder committed on a young woman with a razor by the well-known serial killer "Tearjerk Jack". When he notices Anna, he pursues and attacks her. She sustained a severe head injury in the attack and woke up days later in a hospital ward.

But the injury was not without consequences: Anna suffers a neurological disease called prosopagnosia , which from now on makes it impossible for her to recognize faces and thus to distinguish friend from foe in her environment. Together with the police officer Sam Kerrest and the psychologist Dr. Langenkamp tries Anna to cope with her illness and to remember the murderer, who remembered Anna's face well and is hot on the young woman's heels.

criticism

The film magazine Cinema certifies the film “gripping moments”, but he is undecided: “The shock start is followed by a psychodrama, the directorial ideas of which make it difficult for the viewer to find their way around. - Conclusion: Somewhat profileless amnesia thriller . "The film-dienst judged:" A tolerably exciting thriller that tries to work out the psychological-dramatic component, but does not achieve any particular dramaturgical depth. "
