My West (original title: Il mio West ) is an Italian-made Late West that Giovanni Veronesi directed in 1998 based on a novel by Vincenzo Pardini . Harvey Keitel and David Bowie play the lead roles of two aged gunslingers. In the German-speaking area, the film was first released on DVD in a version shortened by more than ten minutes at the end of 2006.

action

1860, in the small town of Basin Field on the foothills of the Rocky Mountains on the Canadian border. The local doctor Lowen is married to the Indian Pearl; they have a son, Jeremiah. After twenty years, Lowen's father, Johnny, a famous shooter, returns to the town and wants to stay and rest there. Some time later, Jack Sikora, a killer who has been looking for Johnny for years, also arrives there, accompanied by two helpers.

Jack tries to accomplish his mission to kill Johnny by various means; after Johnny dodged a few opportunities to face a duel, Jack kidnaps Johnny's grandson, Jeremiah. The local owner Mary turns against Jack and is killed by him. Now finally Johnny is ready to face the duel. Before that happens, Jack is shot by the village idiot.

criticism

The lexicon of international films praised My West , "whose focus is not on action, but on the growing together of the family" and called the portrayal of the main roles "attractive". Paolo d'Agostini was also enthusiastic: "What is also of crucial benefit to the excellent collaboration is the music by Donaggio, which is precisely tailored to the work of the up-and-coming editor Cecilia Zanuso."

Remarks

Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers interpret the film song “Everyone Wants to Be” with Wyclef Jean .

In Italy, the film was very successful at the box office, with grossing over 17 billion lire .

The exterior shots were taken in Campocatino near Lucca .
