Ballindalloch ( Gaelic : Baile na Dàlach ) is a village in the Scottish Council Area Moray . It is scattered west of the Avon River about 11 km southwest of Aberlour and 18 km northeast of Grantown-on-Spey . The Spey River runs about 1.5 km northwest.
Ballindalloch Castle is located in Ballindalloch . The castle dates back to 1546 and stands near the confluence of the Spey and Avon rivers. The village once had its own station on the Strathspey Railway . The Speyside Way hiking trail also leads through Ballindalloch.
Ballindalloch is located in the middle of the important Speyside whiskey region and is the location of the five active distilleries Cragganmore , Glenfarclas , Glenlivet Tamnavulin and Tomintoul . Furthermore, with Auchorachan and Glenavon, there were two other distilleries that had since been abandoned in the municipality.
