Glenfarclas is a distillery for whiskey in Ballindalloch , Moray , Scotland , United Kingdom .
history
Glenfarclas was founded by Robert Hay in 1836 and was licensed to distill whiskey in 1844 . In 1865 the distillery was sold to John Grant, whose descendants renovated the distillery in 1896 and still own it today. In 1960 and 1976 the distillery was expanded by two to a total of six stills today .
The name of the distillery ( Scottish Gaelic : Gleann Farghlais) is reproduced by Glenfarclas itself as "Glen of the Green Grassland" (German: Valley of the Green Grassland). On the Scottish Parliament's website , the Gaelic name is translated as "The glen of the over-stream".
production
Is produced with two mashing vats ( mash tuns ) (each 15 t) and twelve vats ( wash backs ) (per 45,000 l) from stainless steel , three wash stills each 29,600 liters and finally three spirit stills each 25,000 liters, directly by gas burn.
Bottlings
The whiskeys from Glenfarclas are almost exclusively stored in former sherry barrels (Oloroso). There is a very wide range of different bottlings from the distillery itself. Due to the high storage capacities and the targeted inventory management, the producer is able to offer old vintages in series in the standard program.
