action
The family of the surgeon Dr. Ellen Sanders is captured in her own home by a team led by FBI agent Duncan Carlisle the night before the doctor is due to operate on the President of the United States. The hostage takers demand that they murder the president to save their own family. Duncan provides her with an undetectable poison, which she should inject him during the operation. However, Ellen swaps a drug unnoticed, so that the president is injected with a blood thinning agent while preparing for the operation. Because of this, the operation has to be postponed by 2 weeks. The hostage takers want to stick to their original plan and therefore have to keep the entire family prisoner for a full 2 weeks instead of the planned one day. This proves to be a real test of patience for everyone involved: the family, the hostage-takers and their backers. In order to avoid suspicion, the family members are supposed to go about their normal everyday life, but are constantly monitored by the hostage takers. To do this, Ellen has to implant GPS chips in her family. It is made clear to the family that if anyone goes to the police and tells them about the blackmail, the others will die. Gradually it comes to light who has what motive for the murder of the president. Duncan himself needs a bone marrow donation from the president for his wife, who has leukemia, and the hostage-takers behind the hostage-takers sometimes accompany high-ranking officials directly in the White House. In the last episode, the President's operation finally takes place.
