Toni Collette
Toni Collette (born November 1, 1972 in Sydney , New South Wales ) is an Australian actress and Golden Globe and Emmy Award winner. She was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Sixth Sense .
Career
Toni Collette is a graduate of the National Institute of Dramatic Art . She made her breakthrough as Muriel in the Australian comedy Muriel's Wedding (1994). She was awarded the Australian Film Prize for this role and was nominated for a Golden Globe in 1996. The success of the film in the United States also drew Hollywood's attention to her, and she received her first roles. She started acting on Broadway , for which she received several Tony Award nominations.
One of her best-known roles is that of the mother of the main character Cole ( Haley Joel Osment ) in the thriller The Sixth Sense , for which she was nominated for an Oscar in 2000 for Best Supporting Actress . At the Golden Globes 2007, Collette was nominated twice, namely for the two-part TV series Tsunami - Die Killerwelle and for the movie comedy Little Miss Sunshine . In 2007 she was appointed to the competition jury at the 60th Cannes Film Festival . From 2009 to 2011, Collette starred in the television series Taras Welten developed by Diablo Cody on the US broadcaster Showtime . The role of a woman suffering from dissociative identity disorder earned her an Emmy, a Golden Globe, and other awards and nominations.
With her band Toni Collette & the Finish , Collette performed on July 7, 2007 at the Live Earth Concert in Sydney and sang the song Children of the Revolution .
Personal
Collette has been married to Dave Galafassi since January 11, 2003. The two have had a daughter since 2008, and a son followed in April 2011.
